The story

The gifts that were kept.

Sudha has been giving gifts to a large family for a long time. Somewhere along the way she started noticing which ones stayed on the shelf — and which ones disappeared into a cupboard. Rasa is that noticing.

I · The noticing

A brass tray is not a thing. It is the thing the diyas sit on every Diwali for thirty years.

Sudha will tell this part in her own words — the first gift she remembers choosing, and the one that came back to her years later. Nothing here is written until she has said it.

II · Raipur

Everything is chosen here, in the house, in the afternoon light.

The pieces come from makers Sudha has bought from for years. She sees every one before it is listed, and she turns down more than she keeps.
